(Reuters) - The restored headframe of the former Toburn mine located in the heart of Kirkland Lake, Ontario October 3, 2011. With gold now soaring to $1,700 an ounce and higher, the town has begun to regain some of its lost luster. Companies are reopening mines that were mothballed for decades, offering many new jobs and sparking an economic recovery in the area. The mine produced over 500,000 ounces of gold between 1917 and 1968. Picture taken October 3, 2011.
